As a kid, my family didn’t have very much but my parents always worked to cultivate the love of learning in me. College seemed like something we could never afford but because of businessman and philanthropist Louis H. Gump and the scholarship program he founded – the Roan Scholars Leadership Program – my dream of higher education became a reality.
That’s why after I graduated college, I sought ways to give back to my community. I worked as a college and career advisor for nearly a decade before moving back to my home county to help start a middle college program for high achieving students. Just when I wasn’t sure what next step to take, that is when I found out about ISTS.
It’s rare that you find a company that shares the same values and goals as you, but every day, I get to stay true to myself while also working to give back in the way I’ve always wanted.
As a Program Administrator, I get the opportunity to improve the user experience for my programs and having been on the other side of the application for many years, I use that expertise to make things fun and easy rather than frustrating for those who fill out the applications. I collaborate with clients who share a similar vision to the man that created an opportunity for me to follow my dreams and now I get to make those visions a reality.
I know that every day I get to have a small part in helping give a chance to someone who is looking to achieve their dreams and knowing this makes even the hardest days worth it.
